Accomplishments

Missy McGee puts Hattiesburg first. Her voting record reflects a willingness to stand for the values of our community and fight for our school district, university, hospital, health care professionals and small businesses. An authentic community leader, Missy McGee believes that taking care of people should always come before politics or party.

In two years, Missy has proven herself as an advocate who delivers for the Hattiesburg community. She supported an increase the state budget for early childhood education and advocated for the Hattiesburg Public School District to receive its first ever state investment in its pre-K collaborative. This will mean $2.1 million over three years to expand and improve public pre-k offerings in the Hattiesburg community.

She supported and influenced the Mississippi Infrastructure Modernization Act of 2018, which will create at least $2.2 million of new annual revenue to fix our city’s roads, bridges and water/sewer systems. She was particularly vocal about giving cities the flexibility to use this new infrastructure investment on water and sewer replacement, a critical need for the city of Hattiesburg.

She also worked with other members of the Hattiesburg delegation to obtain $500,000 in BP settlement dollars for direct infrastructure projects for 38th Avenue and Hardy Street.

Missy also worked to pass major policy initiatives out of the House. In her first year in office, she authored HB 1198, which would require that insurance policies provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. This bill passed the House and will come back up for consideration in the 2020 session. She also has co-sponsored bipartisan bills that would allow for online voter registration, create a process by which to restore voting rights to nonviolent offenders and enhance incentives that would help keep young talent in Mississippi.

Aside from her direct contributions as a lawmaker, Missy McGee leads from the front in her community. In 2018, she championed the Hattiesburg Public School District bond renewal, helping achieve a 94% voter approval. In 2019, she supported the Hattiesburg Parks & Recreation 1-Cent campaign, which voters approved with an 81% approval margin.

With Missy McGee, Hattiesburg has a serious policymaker who advocates for our community and works with other legislators to solve problems in our state.
